Keeping our mission statement at the forefront, the Hindu Students Council (HSC) at OCAD University and University of Toronto is delighted to present the first ever completely Student-Run Rath Yatra. This event embodies our commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where students can come together, collaborate, and celebrate the rich tapestry of Hindu heritage and culture. Rath Yatra, also known as the Festival of Chariots, is an ancient and vibrant Hindu tradition that originates from the city of Puri in India. The festival commemorates the annual journey of Lord Jagannath, along with his brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra, in grand chariots, from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple. It is believed that participating in the Rath Yatra grants immense spiritual blessings and offers an opportunity to witness the divine presence of these revered deities.
At the Hindu Students Council (HSC), we are wholeheartedly committed to creating a meaningful and authentic experience that captures the essence of the sacred city of Puri, India, and the joyous celebration of Rath Yatra. With humility and reverence, we aim to replicate the spirit of this ancient tradition and bring the charm of pulling the grand chariot to the streets of Toronto. This event is not only a tribute to the sacred Rath Yatra tradition but also a vibrant celebration of art, culture, and the timeless values of Hinduism.
